Question:

185 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for Education the organisations or bodies in counties Leitrim, Sligo, Galway and Roscommon which applied under the recreational facilities scheme in each of the years 1995 and 1996; the organisations or bodies which were selected for grant assistance; and the amount sanctioned in each case. [20949/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 184 and 185 together.

A number of the groups which applied under the recreational facilities scheme consider their applications to be confidential and, in addition, the compilation of the information in the format requested by the Deputy would entail an inordinate amount of staff time and resources. A total of over 1,500 applications had to be considered under the scheme this year.

The information in respect of the projects selected for grant assistance in 1996 in all countries is currently being collated in tabular form and will be forwarded to the Deputy by my Department. I am also arranging to forward a copy of my Department's annual report Sport in Ireland, 1995 to the Deputy. This report lists the projects which were selected for grant assistance under the scheme in 1995.
