Vol. 471 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Galway Hospital.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

71 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Health if he will accede to a request by the Western Health Board to have hospital beds provided for the board in the Bon Secours Hospital, Tuam, County Galway. [21380/96]

Limerick East): Following discussions with my Department regarding the problem of overcrowding at University College Hospital, Galway, the Western Health Board has proposed a range of measures aimed at resolving the difficulties. The board's proposals include the provision of additional “step-down” beds which will be located in the board's own hospital at Merlin Park.

I understand that the board will keep under review the possibility of utilising the Bons Secours Hospital, Tuam, having regard to the service issues involved and the availability of resources.
