Michael P. Kitt

Question:

76 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for the Environment the areas to be served in stage two of a sewerage scheme (details supplied) in County Galway; and when he will sanction this extension. [22341/96]

Noel Treacy

Question:

77 Mr. N. Treacy asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a project (details supplied) in County Galway has not commenced; if he will give details of the project to be sanctioned; the date on which this project will be sanctioned; the amount of funds being allocated in respect of this project; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22355/96]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 76 and 77 together.

Stage one of the Tuam main drainage scheme, comprising a new waste water treatment plant, and collector and storm sewers, was completed in 1995 at a cost of over £10 million. Galway County Council are, at present, preparing a revised preliminary report for stage two of the scheme which is estimated to cost some £5 million. This would extend the collection system to the town environs, including the Galway Road area. Having regard to the existing level of commitments under the water and sewerage programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve stage two.
