Vol. 472 No. 8

Written Answers. - Health Services.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

75 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Health if he will request the relevant health board to immediately investigate the treatment meted out to a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath, whereby this patient, in extreme pain, was left waiting for several hours and was then refused a meeting with her consultant; when this patient will be called for her operation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24255/96]

Limerick East): The delivery of health services is the statutory responsibility of the health board in the first instance. I have been advised by the Midland Health Board that it has sought a report on the recommended treatment from the consultant concerned and I have requested that the board write directly to the Deputy when a decision has been arrived at in this case.

I have asked the board to deal with the matter as expeditiously as possible.
