Vol. 472 No. 8

Written Answers. - Motorised Transport Grant.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

76 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Health if he will review the case of a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath who applied some time ago for financial aid for a special car to cater for his disability. [24261/96]

Limerick East): Assessment of entitlement to assistance in any individual case is a matter for the relevant health board. In response to the Deputy's parliamentary question of 10 October 1996 — No. 103 — concerning the entitlement of the individual in question I informed the Deputy that the matter had been referred to the chief executive officer of the Midland Health Board to examine and to reply directly to the Deputy. On investigation, the health board notified the Deputy on 22 October that no application for the grant in question i.e. motorised transport grant had been received and an application form was forwarded to the individual. The application was subsequently received and a medical and means assessment are currently being carried out. The health board expects to reach a decision in the near future and I have asked the chief executive officer to communicate this decision directly to the Deputy.
