Vol. 472 No. 8

Written Answers. - Payment to Teacher.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

91 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Education if she will immediately intervene to ensure that a person (details supplied) in County Westmeath is paid her due salary as a substitute teacher; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that there has been a consistent pattern of delayed payments regarding this person; if her attention has further been drawn to the fact that this person has submitted on several occasions the details being requested; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24213/96]

The teacher in question worked as a temporary teacher at the school referred to by the Deputy from 18 November to 29 November 1996. A claim form in respect of substitute teaching was incorrectly submitted by the managerial authorities of the school for this service.

The board of management of the school was contacted on 3 December 1996 and requested to complete and submit a temporary teacher appointment form. This latter form was duly received in my Department on 11 December 1996 and was processed immediately. Accordingly, the teacher will be paid her due salary on 19 December 1996.

I must refute the Deputy's statement that there is a consistent pattern of delayed payments to this teacher. The available evidence clearly indicates that the teacher in question has been paid promptly following receipt of the appropriate documentation.
