Vol. 473 No. 2

Written Answers. - Ministerial Travel.

Ivor Callely

Question:

73 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education the total cost to the Exchequer arising out of the use of air transport for all foreign and internal flights by her and the people accompanying her for each of the years 1980 and 1990; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24757/96]

From the records available in my Department the total cost to date to the Exchequer in 1996 arising out of the use of commercial air transport for all foreign and internal flights by me and accompanying persons is £15,443.12. Some of this cost is refundable by the European Union. The cost to the Exchequer of the use by Ministers of Government aircraft or the air taxi service is a matter for the Minister for Defence.

The work and time involved in extracting comparative figures for 1980 and 1990 would not be justified.
