Vol. 473 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Funding.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

131 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Education if she will ensure that crisis funding is given to a school (details supplied) in Dublin 13. [25034/96]

I regret I am not in a position to provide crisis funding to the school in question.

My capacity to allocate such funding in any given year is determined by the level of available resources and the competing demands across special needs areas.

In the current year, I have sought to target available resources on the most disadvantaged urban schools among those already included in the disadvantaged areas scheme. The "Breaking the Cycle" initiative, which I recently introduced, was designed specifically for this purpose.

Unfortunately, the school to which the Deputy refers is not included in the disadvantaged areas scheme and did not therefore qualify for special supports on this occasion.

The needs of the school in question will be considered in the context of any future allocation of funding for debt relief.
