Question:

401 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Education if she will give a gender breakdown of the number of applicants for the posts of principalships in primary schools in 1996 on a county per county basis; if she will give a gender breakdown of the applicants and appointments to principalships in primary schools on a county per county basis; and if she will give a breakdown of posts arising from the demographic dividend in the past four years in respect of primary education. [1808/97]

The breakdown sought by the Deputy relating to principalships, which has been extracted from records within my Department, is in the form of the following tabular statement. The information requested by the Deputy regarding the demographic dividend is being compiled in my Department at present, and I will arrange to have it forwarded to the Deputy as soon as it is available.
