Vol. 473 No. 4

Written Answers. - Job Creation.

Liam Fitzgerald

Question:

481 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of jobs created by the IDA in 1996; if he will give a breakdown of such jobs in terms of those which went to Irish citizens, to EU citizens outside of Ireland and to non-EU citizens; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25226/96]

A total of 13,180 new jobs were created in IDA-backed overseas companies in 1996, making it the best job creation year ever. Of these, 11,950 were first time jobs and the rest were recoveries of jobs previously lost. While no statistics are available, almost all were Irish with the exception of some managers or special expertise in some instances.
