Vol. 473 No. 6

Written Answers. - Freezing of Assets.

Tony Gregory

Question:

252 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if a property (details supplied) in Dublin 5, which is currently advertised in Gunne estate agents, Fairview, Dublin 3, for sale by private treaty on behalf of a major heroin dealer, will be submitted to the Criminal Assets Bureau and subjected to a freezing order. [2297/97]

To avoid inhibiting the Criminal Assets Bureau I am satisfied that it would not be appropriate to disclose specific details of assets and individuals which the bureau may or may not be targeting. In the circumstances, I do not propose to comment on the property mentioned by the Deputy.

It is, of course, important that anyone in possession of information which could lead to the identification of assets, wherever situated, of persons who derive or are suspected to derive, directly or indirectly, from criminal activity should pass on this information through the Garda authorities to the Criminal Assets Bureau.
