Vol. 474 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Authority Funding.

Tony Gregory

Question:

130 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for the Environment his response to the request from Dublin Corporation for funding to install central heating in the Jamestown Court senior citizen complex, Dublin 8. [2784/97]

Dublin Corporation have made proposals for a programme of works to upgrade elements of their housing stock, including the provision of central heating. There are no funds at my disposal from which assistance could be provided for the works in question. The management, maintenance and improvement of existing dwellings is the responsibility of local authorities, to be financed from their own revenue resources. However, where funding is made available, under the remedial works scheme, to assist authorities in carrying out major structural works to designated housing estates, the installation of central heating may be included as part of such works.
