Vol. 474 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

John Ellis

Question:

161 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Education the funding available to youth clubs from her Department. [2842/97]

Grant aid is allocated by my Department to vocational education committees under the youth and sport scheme for the support of youth and sport activities, at local level, throughout the country. The total amount allocated under this scheme in 1996 was £1,063.479.

In addition, a scheme of grants for youth clubs in the Dublin city area is operated by the City of Dublin Youth Service Board, a sub-committee of the City of Dublin vocational education committee, for which £592,503 was provided in 1996. Youth clubs also benefit from the training and resources provided by the voluntary youth organisations to which they are affiliated. My Department provides support for these organisations under the youth service grant scheme, for which purpose £5,201,519 was allocated in 1996. Decisions have not yet been made in relation to allocations for these schemes in 1997.
