Vol. 474 No. 3

Written Answers. - Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme.

James Leonard

Question:

162 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Education the percentage of students who participated in the vocational training opportunity scheme (VTOS) and went on to further education; the percentage who succeeded in obtaining employment each year since the scheme commenced; and if she will give a breakdown for each centre. [2847/97]

There are no statistics available, for any year prior to 1994, relating to the percentages of participants in the vocational training opportunities scheme who went on to either employment or further education or training. The national progression figures for students who participated in programmes finishing in the summer of 1994 and 1995 were as follows:

1994

1995

Employment

33%

37%

Further education/training

25%

28%

It is regretted that it is not possible to give a breakdown of the figures on a centre by centre basis because of the inordinate amount of staff time that would be required to compile it, in view of the fact that there are 96 centres nationwide.
