140 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of funding provided for the development of libraries, capital and current, in 1997; when he intends to allocate funds; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3590/97]

My Department's Estimates for 1997 provide for grants of up to £2.68 million for public libraries, a capital provision of £2.292 million and a current provision of £0.388 million. Funding is allocated on a project by project basis throughout the year.
