Vol. 474 No. 6

Written Answers. - Departmental Costs.

Paul McGrath

Question:

205 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice the expenditure by her Department on advertisements in national and provincial newspapers for each of the past five years. [3729/97]

It would require the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of staff and time and effort to assemble the specific information sought by the Deputy. However, in an effort to be of assistance to the Deputy, the following tabular statement shows recorded figures in respect of advertising expenditure for my Department:

It is normal practice for the Department to use provincial and local papers to place advertisements relating to local issues e.g. court venues.-Provincial and local papers were also used in the context of the bail referendum.
Included in the 1992 and 1996 figures for the Justice Vote is expenditure on certain advertising in respect of referenda held in those years.
