Vol. 475 No. 4

Written Answers. - Use of Bull-Bars.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

141 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the current controversy (details supplied) regarding the use of bull-bars fitted to motor cars, vans and four wheel drive vehicles; the steps, if any, he intends taking to regulate the trade in the fitting of bull-bars; the further steps, if any, he intends taking to outlaw the dangerous DIY bull-bars which in the United Kingdom have led to drivers being prosecuted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4904/97]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 171 of 2 July 1996. Proposals to address this issue at EU level are currently being examined by a Commission working group.
