Vol. 475 No. 4

Written Answers. - Peace and Reconciliation Programme.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

260 Ms F. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will give details of the projects supported to date by his Department under the Special Programme for Peace and Reconciliation in the Border counties; the amount allocated in this regard; and the purposes for which funding was provided. [4857/97]

The EU Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation contains a measure designed to assist actions of a cross-Border nature between public bodies in the areas of agriculture and forestry. Under this measure a cross-Border initiative — the Erne catchment nutrient management scheme — which is designed to address farm sourced pollution, has been put in place by my Department and the Department of Agriculture for Northern Ireland. The public funding provision for the southern Border counties is £0.666 million up to 1997 with an equivalent provision for Northern Ireland.
