Question:

155 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for the Environment the current position in regard to a new water scheme for Caherciveen, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4975/97]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 125, 126 and 155 together.

Kerry County Council submitted a proposal costing £109,000 for the upgrading of this scheme under the small schemes programme. As already announced, full responsibility for small water and sewerage schemes is to be devolved to local authorities. Accordingly, it will, in the future, be a matter for local authorities to decide on projects locally, within the block grants to be provided by my Department.

157 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for the Environment whether he will sanction a grant for a reed bed sewerage scheme at Steelroe, Killorglin, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4977/97]

While the provision of a sewerage scheme at Steelroe, Killorglin has been discussed informally by Kerry County Council with my Department, no firm proposal has been submitted to date.
