Vol. 475 No. 7

Written Answers. - Remedial Education.

Michael Ring

Question:

160 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made to provide intensive remedial tuition for a child (details supplied) in County Mayo; and if she will ensure that he is taught through English in view of the fact that confusion is currently being caused in this regard. [5782/97]

The child referred to by the Deputy attends a school which teaches its pupils through the Irish language. I understand that this is giving rise to learning difficulties for the child, despite the availability of remedial tuition at the school.

I have arranged for the school's inspector to contact the parents of this child to discuss educational options available.
