148 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Defence the level of funding and support afforded to the Irish Red Cross Society in 1996; if he has received a submission on the required level of funding from this organisation; and his views on this matter. [7204/97]

Minister for Defence (Mr. Barrett)

The Irish Red Cross Society received a grant in aid of £535,000 in respect of 1996. A similar amount has been sought by the society in respect of 1997. The Department is satisfied with the current level of funding afforded to this organisation.
