Vol. 478 No. 7

Written Answers - Lough Allen (Leitrim) Facilities.

John Ellis

Question:

110 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if his Department has acquired land at Tarmon, Drumheerin, County Leitrim, for the provision of access to the floating jetty and car parking and amenity facilities; and if he will make a statement on when these facilities will be available to the public. [12215/97]

The floating jetty at Spenser Harbour in Lough Allen was primarily intended as a refuge for vessels using the navigation in inclement weather and, accordingly, it was not envisaged that it would be linked to the shore in the short term. Nevertheless, the linking of this refuge to the land would be beneficial and such a development, including ancillary facilities, is currently at the planning stage. Subject to the acquisition of necessary lands, it is hoped to start the project later this year and to complete it late 1998 or early 1999.
