Vol. 481 No. 1

Written Answers. - Remedial Services.

Willie Penrose

Question:

289 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will allocate the remedial teacher on an ex-quota basis to Coláiste Mhuire secondary school, Mullingar, County Westmeath in view of the fact that this school currently has a pupil population of 663, and there are a number of pupils who would benefit from such an appointment. [15745/97]

: I am very conscious of the need to improve the remedial teacher service in our secondary schools.

I am sure that the Deputy will appreciate that there are many competing demands for increased funding in all sectors of education. These demands are considered within the overall budgetary constraints and I can assure the Deputy that the position of this school will be kept under review and will be considered when next it is possible to allocate additional ex-quota remedial posts.
