Vol. 481 No. 3

Written Answers. - School Funding.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

141 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department is providing funding for the Rowlagh area parish education group (details supplied) towards a support service aimed at increasing retention levels for second-level students; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16004/97]

My Department has no record of an application for funding from the Rowlagh area parish education group in regard to school retention support services.

However, I would draw the Deputy's attention to the range of measures in place to help to increase retention rates in second-level schools generally. These include community linked schemes such as the home school community liaison scheme, a range of financial and resource supports for schools and pupils in disadvantaged areas, together with curricular reform and increased investment in in-career training of teachers.
