Vol. 481 No. 3

Written Answers. - Mental Handicap Services.

Marian McGennis

Question:

115 Ms M. McGennis asked the Minister for Health and Children the facilities, if any, available in the circumstances to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 10, whose 17 years old son is Down's syndrome in view of the fact that her son, who has no history of violent behaviour towards her, assaulted her recently and she was informed by her general practitioner that there are no facilities available to support people in these circumstances except reporting the incident to the Garda who could take him into custody. [16032/97]

As the Deputy will be aware, the provision of suitable services to persons with a mental handicap in County Dublin is the responsibility of the Eastern Health Board.

I have asked the chief executive officer of the Eastern Health Board to examine this matter and to respond directly to the Deputy.
