Vol. 481 No. 7

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

307 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide funds towards the provision of a sports hall in Rosses community school, Dungloe, County Donegal. [17153/97]

Physical education facilities encompass indoor PE halls, outdoor hard play areas such as basketball and tennis courts and playing fields. Virtually all schools have at least one element of these facilities.

It is the policy of my Department to provide PE halls on a phased basis at all second-level schools where such facilities are not already available.

The principal factor which determines progress in this area is the amount of capital funding available in any given financial year. The question of providing a PE hall at Rosses community school, Dungloe, County Donegal can only be considered in the context of the capital available for post-primary building purposes generally.
However, the planning and building unit of my Department has initiated architectural design of a project to provide changing facilities at the school.
