Vol. 482 No. 1

Written Answers. - Illegal Fireworks.

Question:

137 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will request teachers in primary and secondary schools to highlight the dangers involved in the use of fireworks to pupils; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17364/97]

I am aware of the dangers which illegal fireworks can pose to both primary and postprimary school children. I am also aware that the Garda are conducting a high-profile campaign to alert people to these dangers. I am satisfied that teachers are aware of the risks associated with fireworks and are likely to raise this issue with their pupils.
