Austin Currie

Question:

138 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science when the high level planning group preparing the strategic plan for the new Blanchardstown Regional Technical College first met; if it is on target to report within six months of its first meeting; if the report will be made public; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17368/97]

The high level planning group established under the auspices of the Higher Education Authority to prepare a strategic plan for the new Blanchardstown Regional Technical College first met on 26 June 1997. The Higher Education Authority has confirmed that the planning group is currently on target to present the completed report to my Department within the agreed timeframe. In the normal way the proposed strategic plan will be considered by the Higher Education Authority and my Department. At that stage a decision will be taken on whether the report of the planning group will be made public, having regard to the confidential nature of the various institutional submissions made to the planning group.
