Emmet Stagg

Question:

112 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will request the British Home Office to advise a person (details supplied), who is currently serving a prison sentence in HMP Belmarsh, on the steps he must take in order to be considered for a transfer to Ireland under the Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons. [17264/97]

The United Kingdom authorities have been contacted in order to ascertain if the person referred to in the question has made an application for transfer under the provisions of the Convention on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons. To date no application has been received from the person concerned.

My Department will now formally write to the UK authorities requesting that the person referred to, be advised of the steps involved in making an application for transfer, and that the customary documentation be forwarded in order that I may consider the application. The person concerned will also be written to by my Department and advised of the necessry procedures to be followed.
