Vol. 482 No. 3

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

Pat Carey

Question:

213 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will recommend to Government the introduction of an appeals system for medical card applications similar to that which applies through the social welfare appeals office for social welfare applicants; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17908/97]

Proposals for the amendment of the existing appeals system within health boards in order to provide for a more customer-focused service are currently being examined. The establishment of an independent statutory appeals agency along the lines of the special welfare appeals office is among the options being considered.
