Vol. 482 No. 3

Written Answers. - Recycling Facilities.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

237 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposal, if any, his Department has received from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Council for funding for a recycling park and baling station at Ballyogan, County Dublin; the consideration, if any, which has been given to the proposal; if funding will be provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17696/97]

An application for grant assistance under the Waste Management Sub-Programme of the Operational Programme for Environmental Services 1994-99, has been received from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. The proposal relates to the provision of green boxes for the collection of recyclable waste by Kerbside Dublin, the development of a baling station, a public recycling park/civic amenity facility, bring centres, a materials recovery facility, a materials recycling facility, a green waste composting facility, and an organic waste composting facility. While the proposal is under consideration in my Department, baling stations, which are associated with waste disposal activities, are not eligible for financial assistance under the operational programme, which directs assistance towards the provision of recycling infrastructure.

Approval for financial assistance up to £35,625, has already been given in respect of the purchase of 9,500 Green Boxes, to extend Kerbside Dublin's collection of recycable materials in the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown area.
