Vol. 482 No. 8

Written Answers. - Bridge Repairs.

Willie Penrose

Question:

155 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Finance the immediate steps, if any, the Office of Public Works will take to repair and rebuild the bridge at lands (details supplied) in County Westmeath in view of the fact that it is on the point of collapsing and requires urgent attention; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19564/97]

The bridge in question is a 36" pipe culvert constructed by the Commissioners of Public Works as part of the Inny drainage scheme. Subsequently, the bridge was extended by the landowner on the upstream side by the introduction of three additional 36" pipes. The original bridge structure is in good condition and does not require attention at this time. The commissioners have no responsibility for the maintenance of the works undertaken by the landowner.
