61 Mr. Haughey asked the Taoiseach the total number of petrol chain-saws imported to Ireland for 1996 and 1997; their country of origin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20691/97]

The latest period for which figures are available is July 1997. Details for 1996 and the seven month period January-July 1997 are shown in the following table:

It should be noted that, overall, approximately 7 per cent of trade is unclassified by commodity. The unclassified trade consists mainly of intra-EU estimates including estimates for traders below the import survey threshold of £100,000.
