Vol. 483 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tourism Operational Programme.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

450 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will give details of the level of financial allocations to date in 1997 to each county under the present Tourism Operational Programme 1994-1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21108/97]

Grants assistance for the development and promotion of Irish tourism, under the product development and marketing sub-programmes of the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-1999, is approved by independent management boards, established under the programme. Details of grants for individual projects, identified on a county basis in the case of capital projects, are contained in the annual reports of these management boards, the latest of which covers the period to end December 1996 and copies of which have been laid before each House of the Oireachtas.

CERT's expenditure on tourism training is detailed in its annual report and accounts which is also laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas, but because of the nature of training activities, this expenditure, like that in marketing, does not lend itself to classification on a county basis.

The natural-cultural tourism sub-programme and the tourism angling measure of the operational programme are administered by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands and the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources respectively from where details of projects supported can be sought.
