Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Accommodation.

Michael Ferris

Question:

359 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Defence if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 120 of 17 December 1997, he will list this accommodation for 1997 and to date in 1998. [1288/98]

The current numbers of standard grade quarters available for living-in personnel of the Permanent Defence Force are 324 for officers and 1002 for non-commissioned personnel — total 1326. In addition about 282 officers and 882 non-commissioned personnel at present occupy the living-in accommodation referred to as substandard grade in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 120 on 17 December 1997, for which no charge is payable by the occupants. The relative position during 1997 was largely similar, bearing in mind that small fluctuations occur as the demand for accommodation reflects operational requirements.
