Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Agrimonetary Compensation Scheme.

Liam Aylward

Question:

446 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny was refused payment on one animal under the agrimonetary compensation scheme in view of the fact the error was made by the factory in that they confused the lettering on the docket and no error was made by the applicant. [1729/98]

The person named applied for compensation in respect of two finished heifers under the 1997 agrimonetary compensation scheme. In his application, the herdowner quoted a tag number for one amimal which following a computer cross-check turned out to be invalid for payment purposes. The helpsheet which issued with application forms advised herdowners that errors, where found in ear tag numbers listed on applications, would lead to loss of compensation on the relevant animals(s). However, in view of the fact that the herdowner has since supplied the correct version of the number to his local livestock office, arrangements are being made to pay agrimonetary compensation on this animal. Payment can be expected shortly.

Payment on the remaining animal issued on 24 December 1997.
