Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Listed Buildings Preservation.

Michael Creed

Question:

522 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Finance if he will introduce tax incentives in the 1998 Finance Bill to facilitate and encourage the preservation of listed heritage buildings which are in private ownership in view of the report of the interdepartmental working group on strengthening the protection of the architectural heritage. [2061/98]

The whole area of the presentation of listed buildings is under examination by the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands and the Minister for the Environment and Local Government, and the question of tax incentives will be considered in this context.

The main tax changes for the coming year were announced in my recent Budget Statement. A number of other changes are being considered for the 1998 Finance Bill which is due to be published in mid-February. While the details of many of the changes were given in a preliminary Finance Bill list published last week, I am not in a position at present to give details of other items being considered for inclusion in the Finance Bill.
