Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Houses of the Oireachtas.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

523 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Finance the proposed starting date for work on the refurbishment of Dáil Éireann and if this project will involve the acquisition of adjoining buildings such as the National Library, National Museum and National Gallery; the cost involved; if there will be an opportunity for contractors to apply for this work; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2076/98]

The timetable for the development of new accommodation for the Houses of the Oireachtas shows a start on site in July this year, that is immediately after the Oireachtas rises for the summer recess. There will be no requirement for accommodation in the adjoining buildings occupied by the National Library, National Museum or National Gallery.

The cost of the works is estimated at £25 million in total. The actual works will be divided into two separate contracts and an opportunity will be afforded to interested contractors to apply for inclusion on the tender lists for both jobs. A public advertisement to this effect will appear in the national media shortly.
