Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Proposed Legislation.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

533 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Health and Children the proposals for legislation being prepared under the auspices of his Department where heads have been approved by Government; the expected date of publication; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1008/98]

Proposals for legislation being prepared under the auspices of my Department where heads have been approved by Government are as follows: a Bill setting up the Food Safety Authority of Ireland is with the Parliamentary Draughtsman and it is expected that it will be introduced in the Oireachtas during the current session; and draft heads of a new Mental Health Bill have been approved by Government and the Bill is currently being drafted in the Office of the Attorney General. It is not possible at this stage to indicate a publication date but every effort is being made to progress the preparation of the Bill.
