Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Courts Accommodation.

Michael Bell

Question:

759 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason the project as sanctioned by his predecessor in relation to the building of a new court house for the District and Circuit Courts in Drogheda, County Louth has been delayed by his Department; the reason for the delay; if the project will now go ahead; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1477/98]

The building of a new courthouse for the District and Circuit Courts in Drogheda forms part of my Department's courts building programme. Towards the end of last year the Department asked Louth County Council, which acts as the Department's agents in the matter, to appoint consultant architects to prepare plans for the new courthouse on a site located in the town. I understand that the county council will be appointing the architects for the project shortly.

The Deputy will appreciate that it is not possible at this stage to provide a timescale for the work given the nature of the planning, consultation and tendering processes. He may be assured, however, that the Department will continue to progress the project without undue delay.

Michael Finucane

Question:

760 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to carry out refurbishment works at a District Court (details supplied) in County Limerick; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1513/98]

It is intended to refurbish and upgrade the District Court venue in question as part of my Department's courts building programme. Limerick County Council, who act as this Department's agents in this matter, have recently been asked to appoint the design team to draw up plans for the refurbishment of the courthouse. It is not possible to say at this stage when this refurbishment work will take place.
