Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

924 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason a reply to Deputy Reynold's correspondence of 3 September 1997 (details supplied) has not been received. [2016/98]

My Department has no record of the correspondence referred to by the Deputy.

However, I can confirm that the family in question resides 0.9 miles from the pick-up point to the school transport service. This is considered to be a reasonable level of service in the context of the general operation of the school transport scheme.

In addition, there is no suitable turning point on this route and any extension to the existing service would inconvenience a large number of other pupils currently being served by this vehicle.

Accordingly, I regret that I am not in a position to authorise an extention of this service.
