Vol. 486 No. 3

Written Answers. - Immigration Regulations.

Dick Spring

Question:

252 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the difficulties being experienced by resident non-nationals at ports and airports when returning from trips abroad; and if he will make special arrangements to alleviate their difficulties, particularly in cases where these persons have been legally residing and working in Ireland for over two years. [2581/98]

Resident non-nationals are subject to normal immigration regulations when returning from trips abroad. If they have complied with those regulations, their passports will display the "permission to remain" endorsement applicable to their status here as well as a visa, if this is required. In circumstances where the person is in full compliance with the regulations, there should not be any difficulties in their returning to Ireland.

I would stress that An Garda Síochána, who have responsibility for controls at points of entry, are anxious to facilitate bona fide travellers with the minimum of inconvenience.
