Vol. 486 No. 3

Written Answers. - Court Accommodation.

John Perry

Question:

260 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his attention has been drawn to the fact that his predecessor allocated a figure of £3 million for renovation and modernisation of Sligo courthouse; the steps, if any, which have been taken to ensure that the reconstruction and modernisation takes place as soon as possible; when it is anticipated that work will start in this regard, when the work will be completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2734/98]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 175 on 29 January 1998 which sets out the position in relation to this matter.

I should also say that the total budget for capital works in respect of courthouses in 1997 was £6.745 million and funding is allocated for particular projects as they arise. A total of £8.45 million has been allocated for capital projects this year and the appropriate funds will be provided for the renovation and modernisation of Sligo courthouse when the plans have been finalised and tenders received.
