Vol. 487 No. 1

Written Answers. - Nursing Home Subventions.

Róisín Shortall

Question:

97 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to concerns by patients and their relatives at a nursing home (details supplied) in County Offaly that the nursing home is not registered as required by law with the Midland Health Board; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that nursing home subventions are not being paid in these cases in view of the fact that the home is not registered, thus causing severe financial hardship to these patients and families; the steps, if any, he will take to ensure that the home is registered and that nursing home subventions are paid in these cases; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3471/98]

The implementation of the Nursing Homes Act is a matter for the appropriate health board. I understand from the Midland Health Board that it is in discussion with the proprietor of the home referred to by the Deputy and it is anticipated that the registration of the home will be finalised shortly. The board will then address the situation with regard to subvention payments.
