Question:

75 Mr. Connaughton asked the Taoiseach the number of live deer exported between the years 1992 to 1996; the exporter; the country of destination and the date of export. [3696/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 74 and 75 together.

Live deer are not distinguished in the customs and excise tariff of Ireland. Accordingly, information on the exports of live deer is not available.

The following tables provide details on the exports of venison for the years 1992 and 1996 and for the ten month period January-October 1997. Details of the exporters involved are confidential under the Statistics Act, 1993.

Note: It should be noted that, overall, approximately 5 per cent of trade is unclassified by commodity. The unclassified trade consists mainly of intra-EU estimates, including estimates for traders below the export survey threshold of £500,000.
