Question:92 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the proposals, if any, there are to restock Lough Allen with elvers in 1998. [3810/98]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 91 and 92 together.
I understand that the ESB carried out a small elver restocking programme in Lough Allen in June 1997. The ESB has proposals to carry out a scientific elver restocking programme at various locations including Lough Allen in the Shannon catchment upstream of the Ardnacrusha dam in 1998. The amount of elvers to be restocked into Lough Allen will depend on the amount of elvers captured in the Shannon Estuary.
