John McGuinness

Question:

143 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will make funds available to Kilkenny VEC to carry out emergency works at Ormonde College, Ormonde Road, Kilkenny in view of the detailed report submitted to his Department by the college requesting immediate action and the fact that the college is a listed building; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4452/98]

An application has been received for works at a city technical school, Ormonde College, in Kilkenny.

An official from the planning and building unit of my Department will visit the school in the near future in order to progress the project and assist in prioritising the works.

The question of funding will be considered when the project is in a position to proceed to tender.

Question:

144 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will have arrangements made for an immediate inspection of Grennan College, Thomastown, County Kilkenny, to determine the extent of the works required to repair the roof which is leaking and is in a very poor condition; if emergency funds are available to deal with this problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4453/98]

An application for roof repairs has been received from County Kilkenny vocational education committee.

The VEC has been asked to prepare a detailed report on the nature and scope of the work required to repair the roof.

When the report is submitted by the VEC the question of funding will be considered in light of available resources and competing priorities.
