Vol. 487 No. 6

Written Answers - School Staffing.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

356 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will create a permanent post for a teacher for the deaf at Our Lady's school, Castleblayney, County Monaghan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [4998/98]

My Department has allocated five resource posts to Our Lady's school to cater for the educational needs of special needs pupils, and has also allocated one temporary post to cater for pupils with hearing impairment who attend the school.

I can assure the Deputy that the needs of this school will be kept under review and that the question of providing a permanent post for a teacher for the deaf will be considered in the context of available resources.
