244 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposed alterations to the driving test to meet EU requirements; when he proposes to introduce the new test; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5243/98]
Only minor changes in respect of certain categories of vehicles remain to be made to the driving test. However, it is intended that a separate theoretical test relating to the rules of the road, the passing of which will be a prerequisite for entitlement to a first provisional licence, will be introduced later this year.
