Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Pat Carey

Question:

286 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if discussions have been concluded with Dublin Corporation in relation to an allocation of money to allow Dublin Corporation to carry out remedial works to houses in the Finglas, Dublin 11 area which have outdoor toilet facilities; the extent of moneys being sought; the amount to be granted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7109/98]

The management, maintenance and improvement of their rented dwellings, including the provision of bathroom facilities, are the responsibility of local authorities. To assist them in providing bathroom/shower/toilets in their dwellings which lack them, funding is provided under the bathroom sub-programme operated by my Department. Dublin Corporation's allocation under the sub-programme for 1998 is £340,000. The planning and carrying out of work under the sub-programme is a matter for the corporation.
